Record #191819:

Complexities in assessing the effects of contaminants in wildlife / Svalbard Science Forum.

Title: Complexities in assessing the effects of contaminants in wildlife / Svalbard Science Forum.
Author (corporate): Svalbard Science Forum.
Date: 2009.
In: Polar News = Notizie Polari. (2009.), Vol. 12 (2009)
Abstract: Reports study undertaken by Norwegian Polar Institute to assess health risk of long-term exposure to environmental contaminants (e.g. DDT and PCBs) by comparing two contrasting ringed seal (Phoca hispida) populations: low-contaminated population from Svalbard and highly contaminated population from Baltic Sea. Finds that hormone and vitamin systems in seals have complex and highly variable responses to contaminant exposure.
