Abstract: Outlines objective of International Northern Sea Route Program (INSROP): to create knowledge bank covering commercial, international shipping on Russia's Northern Sea Route. INSROP addressed: considerations of natural conditions, ice navigation and ship technology; environmental issues; economics of shipping; and military, legal and indigenous cultural issues. Conclusions included improvements in vessel designs and measures to ensure safe navigation.
