Abstract: Reports cooperative agreement between National Science Foundation (NSF) and University of Alaska Fairbanks to construct Alaska Region Research Vessel (ARRV), 236-foot, US$123 million ice-capable vessel designed for research at high latitudes. ARRV is expected to enter University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) fleet in 2011, and will support oceanographic and fisheries research in high-latitude open seas, near-shore regions, and seasonal sea ice.
