Author(s): | Nyysönen, Jukka. |
Date: | 2009. |
In: | Journal of Northern Studies. (2009.), Vol. 1 (2009) |
Abstract: | Examines establishment and control of cultural borders between Finns and Skolt Saami. Before World War II (as illustrated in travel book by Sakari Pälsi), whole state of Finland tried to come to terms with new "colony" and new exotic "other", Skolt Saami, within Finnish boundaries. This led to ambivalent relations with new citizens of Finland and difficulties with control of cultural border. Considers later changes in attitudes as exemplified in post-colonial writings of Karl Nickul. |
