| Abstract: | Re-interprets genesis of flat glacio-fluvial plains in Kevala end-moraine zone using satellite imagery, landform and sediment analysis and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data. Uses confirmed delta and shoreline altitudes that indicate contemporary water level to reconstruct shoreline gradient and establish extent and volume of water in White Sea Basin during late Younger Dryas 11,500 years ago. Shows that water body was extensive and relatively deep, inundating large, currently onshore, areas on western side of White Sea and Arkhangelsk area to east. Ice margin terminated in White Sea, which was connected to Barents Sea via Gorlo Strait and separated from Baltic drainage basin to south. |
