Abstract: Presents glacial geological study of Vashon till in upland areas of two mountain valleys opening onto Fraser Lowland. Valleys would have drained ice from south-west part of Cordilleran Ice Sheet during last (Fraser) glaciation. Uses orientation and association of a-axis fabrics of stones in till and bedrock abrasion features, and presence of local glacigenic bedrock quarrying, to infer relatively slow ice flow, in contrast with earlier study in valley bottoms and adjacent lowlands indicating rapid flow. Suggests present study may reflect conditions following Last Glacial Maximum and immediately before deglaciation, when ice had thinned and slowed. Reduced flow to lower piedmont glaciers may have accelerated decay of ice sheet margin.
