| Abstract: | Presents stratigraphy of Kriegers Flak and discusses implications for glacial and palaeoenvironmental history of south-western Baltic during MIS 3. Focuses on clay unit in sediment cores, divided into three sub-units: lower clay with benthic foraminifera and diamict beds; thin beds of gyttja and peat, dated to 31-35 ¹⁴C kyr BP; and upper clay unit. Presents deposition model and palaeoclimatic interpretation involving deposition in brackish basin during Scandinavian Ice Sheet retreat (probably Middle Weichselian), period from 40 kyr BP in which area was wetland with small ponds, and deposition of massive clay following transgression probably caused by damming of Baltic Basin during Kattegat advance at 29 kyr BP. |
