| Abstract: | Uses provenance-dependent clast variability in till and luminescence dating of inter-till deposits to demonstrate that ice streaming took place along number of paths within Baltic Basin during MIS 3. Focusing on Danish sub-basin as well-studied region, discusses ice-sheet dynamics and evaluates dating techniques and age estimates. Lithology and directional ice-flow properties of pre-LGM (Ristinge and Klintholm) till formations suggest ice-sheet dynamics during MIS 3 expansion similar to those during post-LGM advances. Reconstructs flow paths, and estimates basal ice-sheet coupling. Identifies two MIS 3 advances: Ristinge ice stream around 50 kyr BP and Klintholm ice stream around 32 kyr BP, suggesting connections with Dansgaard-Oeschger events 14-13 and 8-5. |
