| Abstract: | Presents 32 AMS ¹⁴C datings of well-preserved bones from Skjonghelleren and Hamnsundhelleren caves in western Norway, and re-datings of mollusc shells from nearby basal tills. Results from bones and shells indicate ice-free coast 41-38 ¹⁴C kyr BP and 34-28 ¹⁴C kyr BP respectively, during so-called Ålesund Interstadial and earlier (Austnes) ice-free period, correlated with Greenland interstadials 8-7 and 12-11. Between and after these interstadials, ice margin reached continental shelf to west of Norway. Examines correlations with Greenland ice core stratigraphy, based partly on identifying Laschamp and Mono Lake palaeomagnetic excursions, and aspects of glacial fluctuations during Bølling-Younger Dryas, aiming to elucidate processes during Dansgaard-Oeschger events. |
