Record #191607:

The omission of conflicting evidence from the paper by Golledge et al. (2008) / Derek Flinn.

Title: The omission of conflicting evidence from the paper by Golledge et al. (2008) / Derek Flinn.
Author(s): Flinn, Derek.
Date: 2009.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2009.), Vol. 91(4) (2009)
Abstract: Criticises paper The last glaciation of Shetland, North Atlantic. Geografiska Annaler, 90 A(1): 37-53, which concluded on basis of remote sensing study that islands were overrun by ice from Scandinavia during last glacial maximum in Shetland. Argues that paper's method did not reveal direction of ice flow and that authors ignored earlier ground-based work on striations that did, leaving their conclusions without scientific basis. Presents and discusses published evidence (including Flinn's own) from striation mapping. Does not argue that Shetlands were not overrun by Scandinavian ice at this time, only that omission of all evidence suggesting contrary renders paper unscientific.
