Abstract: Applies simplified mass balance model for Storbreen based on energy balance principles, using AWS data from ablation zone for calibration and validation. Model includes parameterisation of snow albedo and is driven by temperature and precipitation data from weather stations outside glacier area. Compares modelled and measured balance values for period 1949-2006 and reconstructs mass balance for period 1924/25-1948/49. Examines sensitivity of model to choice of set-up and parameters, and sensitivity of Storbreen to changes in air temperature and precipitation. Results indicate that 2°C warming will extend ablation season by c. 30 days and extend period of ice melt at AWS location from c. 40 to c. 80 days.
