Record #191593:

Post-glacial isostatic adjustment and global warming in Subarctic Canada: implications for islands of the James Bay region / Leonard J.S. Tsuji, and 3 others.

Title: Post-glacial isostatic adjustment and global warming in Subarctic Canada: implications for islands of the James Bay region / Leonard J.S. Tsuji, and 3 others.
Author(s): Tsuji, Leonard J. S.
Date: 2010.
In: Arctic. (2010.), Vol. 62(4) (2010)
Abstract: Investigates potential for islands of western James Bay to join mainland Ontario or Quebec following post-glacial isostatic adjustment. Claimed by James Bay Cree as traditional territory never surrendered through treaty, islands are being prospected for diamonds. Describes numerical modelling to predict shoreline migration over next 1000 years. Discusses sensitivity of results to models of Quaternary Laurentide Ice Sheet and viscoelastic structure of solid earth, and to eustatic sea level change. Suggests that 1.8 mm/yr sea level rise will see Strutton Islands and Cape Hope Islands join mainland Quebec in ~400 years, with Akimiski Island taking at least 700 years to join mainland Ontario. For upper estimate of 5.9 mm/yr sea level rise, Akimiski Island will remain isolated.
