Abstract: | Examines use of remote sensing to study surface water bodies and soil moisture as important liquid-phase storage features in hydrology. Notes importance of Arctic land-surface water balance in planetary heat and water balance. Presents theoretical considerations for detection of surface water and soil moisture, and examples of experiments and applications in northern environments, drawn mainly from studies of Arctic Canada using visible, infrared, and active and passive microwave sensors. |
