Abstract: Examines contrasting continental and maritime Russian glacier systems and presents simple method for projecting change of system parameters as glaciers undergo climate change. Considers Orulgan, Suntar-Khayata and Cherskiy ranges in Pole of Cold area at contact of Atlantic and Pacific influences, and maritime Kamchatka under Pacific influence. Reconstructs vertical mass balance profiles, based on meteorological observations and ECHAM-4 AOGM scenario for 2040-2069. Defines recent and future equilibrium line altitude (ELA) for each glacier system and hypsometry of glacier covered area, taking account of correlation between change of ELA and terminus altitude. Estimates possible changes in glacier area, morphology and mass balance and constructs spatial patterns of potential ELA and accumulation at ELA.
