| Abstract: | Compares abilities of snow models of differing complexities to simulate snow cover characteristics (mainly snow water equivalent, SWE) under various meteorological and landscape conditions. Describes area of Jalovecký creek catchment in northern Slovakia and data from three sites used for case study. Describes two index models (temperature and wind-temperature) and three energy-based models (EXT, UEB and SPONSOR) and discusses results of simulations. Confirms usefulness of index models where input data is sparse, and superiority of energy-based models where snow water equivalents change rapidly. Stresses need for careful validation with field measurements. |
