Method requires that more than two glacier inventories in river basin be available, along with long-term meteorological records from nearby station. Presents calculations for period 1950-2007 for Sokh, Shahimardan, Isfara basins and upper Zeravshan basin, noting difficulty of selecting suitable weather station. Demonstrates high sensitivity of glaciation to climate change, with area decreasing from 1950 to mid-1960s, increasing a little to mid-1970s, decreasing into 1990s, and almost stabilising thereafter.
