| Abstract: | Identifies three main periods of glaciological cartography: International Geophysical Year 1957-58, which saw topographic glacier surveys in many countries and subsequent compilation of important atlases (e.g., Atlas of Mountain Glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere, Atlas of Elbrus); period from 1960s-1980s, characterised by active studies of mountain glaciers and production of small-scale thematic maps and atlases (e.g., Atlas of Antarctica, Atlas of Arctic); and period from end of 1980s, which saw advent of digital cartography and was characterised by creation of digital glaciological databases and GIS products (World Atlas of Snow and Ice Resources appeared in 1997) |
