Abstract: Examines statistics for dates of beginning of spring flood and peak flow in estuary sections of Ob and Yenisei rivers for period 1936-2003, aiming to provide forecasts that allow preventive works and avoid losses. Assesses links between characteristic dates and: occurrence of synoptic processes over Atlantic during winter; dates by which various thresholds in temperature (e.g., 0°C) or accumulated positive temperatures are reached in central parts of catchments; snow pack characteristics. Finds characteristic dates only weakly correlated with snowpack moisture content and water equivalent, but significantly correlated with reaching of 30°C and 40°C accumulated positive temperatures. Provides multiple regression equations allowing forecasts with 78%-86% accuracy and 20-24 day lead time.
