Gives history of settlement and of Christian church, and describes living conditions of islanders. Gives details of Tristan da Cunha Fund, aimed at providing periodical communications with Cape Colony in South Africa; formation of affiliated settlement on South African mainland; and developing administrative authority on island ultimately vested in visiting warship.
