Abstract: Reports deployment of two versions of fluvial sediment trap (designed to collect integrated samples of ambient suspended sediment load) in small river at Cape Bounty, Melville Island, Nunavut. Daily and bi-daily sediment capture in traps was broadly proportionate to suspended sediment loads estimated directly from daily sediment flux measurements, but showed highly variable trap capture rates. Analysis showed that median grain size of captured material was significantly coarser than ambient material, although medial grain size of two trap versions deployed was not significantly different. Results suggest that traps did not consistently collect representative mass or particle size sample in river environment with highly variable conditions.
