Record #191255:

Dynamics of ice-cap drainage basins from marine geophysical and geological evidence: Eastern Austfonna, Svalbard / Phoebe Maher Robinson.

Title: Dynamics of ice-cap drainage basins from marine geophysical and geological evidence: Eastern Austfonna, Svalbard / Phoebe Maher Robinson.
Author(s): Robinson, Phoebe Maher.
Date: 2010.
Abstract: Uses evidence from seafloor morphology and sediments to examine former ice extent and dynamics of three drainage basins adjacent to Hartogbukta. Describes and interprets submarine landforms and landform assemblages that provide evidence of past ice dynamics, identifying four distinct ice-flow episodes from late Weichselian to present. Suggests full-glacial ice sheet extended over Hartogbukta, flowing ESE, and that adjacent drainage basins underwent repeated surges during Holocene, notably when two basins surged as cohesive mass in late 1800s, and when another surged less extensively in 20th century. Places events in contexts of glaciology and known glacial history of Austfonna, and studies of surge-affected submarine environments elsewhere in Svalbard.
