Abstract: Presents results of five year study of preindustrial land and water use in Lake Imandra watershed region (Kola Peninsula). Former members of reindeer herding villages (pogosti) were interviewed and archival materials analysed to reconstruct how Saami families utilised land and water for hunting, fishing and other economic activities prior to World War II. Uses genealogies to ascertain how Saami reindeer herding family members interacted in their natural resource use.
