Occurrence, distribution, and nature of hydrocarbon-degrading genes in biodegradative microorganisms from the Antarctic environment / Adriana Philippi Luz, Emanuele Kuhn, Vivian Helena Pellizari.
Title: | Occurrence, distribution, and nature of hydrocarbon-degrading genes in biodegradative microorganisms from the Antarctic environment / Adriana Philippi Luz, Emanuele Kuhn, Vivian Helena Pellizari. |
Author(s): | Luz, Adriana Philippi. Kuhn, Emanuele. Pellizari, Vivian Helena. |
Date: | 2009. |
Publisher: | London: Taylor & Francis |
In: | Polar microbiology : the ecology, biodiversity and bioremediation potential of microorganisms in extremely cold environments. (2009.), |
Abstract: | Describes bacterial hydrocarbon-degrading genes with particular reference to alkane monooxygenases (Alks) and aromatic ring hydroxylating dioxygenases (ARHDs), and reviews the literature on their biogeography in polar soils. Discusses diversity of Alk and ARHD genes in Antarctic environments, with details of data from marine sediments at two sites in Admiralty Bay, King George Island in South Shetland Islands, one pristine (Botany Point) and one impacted by human activity at Comandante Ferraz station. |
