Abstract: Summarizes hydrology and ecology on surface, within and potentially beneath glaciers in Taylor Valley, Antarctica. Small cryoconite holes cover about 4.5% of ablation zones of glaciers in Taylor Valley and cryolakes initiated by Aeolian-deposited dust are also prominent features of these areas. Warmer summers can lead to flushing of these features, transferring solutes, organic matter, and organisms from glaciers into streams and lakes, and soil material transported to glaciers by wind is thus eventually transported into aquatic systems in Taylor Valley. Holes and lakes on glacier surface are bioreactors where inorganic materials are fixed biologically over time.
