Abstract: Presents recent archaeological and medical research which throws light on mysterious deaths of 17 Norwegian sealers in Swedish House (Svenskhuset) at Kapp Thorsden, Spitsbergen during winter and spring of 1872-73. Cause was originally thought to have been scurvy but recent evidence suggests that lead poisoning contributed to tragedy.
