Record #190534:

[Effects of atmospheric temperature rise on snowfall, snowmelt and snow water equivalent in a heavy snowfall area in Japan] / Shigeo Suizu.

Title: [Effects of atmospheric temperature rise on snowfall, snowmelt and snow water equivalent in a heavy snowfall area in Japan] / Shigeo Suizu.
Translated title: Effects of atmospheric temperature rise on snowfall, snowmelt and snow water equivalent in a heavy snowfall area in Japan.
Author(s): Suizu, Shigeo.
Date: 2009.
Language: Japanese.
In: Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2009.), Vol. 72(1) (2009)
Abstract: Presents estimates of snowfall, snowmelt and snow water equivalent (SWE) in Uonogawa and Imokawa basins and four sites of different elevations in Niigata prefecture over last 30 years. Investigates effect of global warming through examining changes under 2°C rise in temperature. Observes that, in both basins as temperature rises, snowfall, SWE and snow-covered area decrease and SWE and snowmelt are maximal later in season. Changes are more marked in lower (Uonogawa) basin. Discusses causes, different sensitivities in two basins observed over period 1978-2000, and likely responses if temperatures continue to rise.
