| Abstract: | Examines distribution of near-surface (0-25 m) permafrost in sediments and bedrock of Ridnitšokka fell in Entontekiö, northwest Finland, using adapted electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). Describes laboratory and in situ resisitivity of till and resistivity soundings at three till-covered sites presenting periglacial activity, differing in altitude, vegetation, morphology and hydrology. Notes that very high resistivity of permafrost bedrock and of till in summit area, where permafrost was at least 5-15 m thick, made permafrost at greater depths difficult to assess. Otherwise accurate and flexible, technique would require complementary drilling or seismic refraction study to resolve ambiguity at depth. |
