Record #190496:

Portable AWS running in remote high areas in the tropical Andes of Bolivia, Peru, Ecaudor / Patrick Wagnon.

Title: Portable AWS running in remote high areas in the tropical Andes of Bolivia, Peru, Ecaudor / Patrick Wagnon.
Author(s): Wagnon, Patrick.
Date: [2004]
Publisher: Utrecht: Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht
In: Automatic weather stations on glaciers : lessons to be learned : extended abstracts : workshop, 28-31 March 2004, Pontresina (Switzerland). ([2004]),
Abstract: Describes meteorological-glaciological program of French Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, aimed at understanding climate-glacier relationship at low latitudes and running since 1996 on tropical Andean glaciers. Programme includes AWS in ablation zones of Zongo and Antizana glaciers to examine surface energy balance, and planned AWS on Artesonraju (Peru) and at high altitude on Illimani (Bolivia) and Corupuna (Peru). Studies will include post-depositional processes due to sublimation. Describes AWS designs to overcome deployment difficulties such as riming, high wind speeds and inability of helicopters to reach high Andean summits. Describes measurement of radiative and turbulent energy fluxes, and snow temperature profiles where melting is absent.
