Autostations networks in the Canadian Arctic archipelago: twenty years later, issues and problems / Claude Labine, Roy (Fritz) Kerner.

Title: Autostations networks in the Canadian Arctic archipelago: twenty years later, issues and problems / Claude Labine, Roy (Fritz) Kerner.
Author(s): Labine, Claude.
Kerner, Roy (Fritz)
Date: [2004]
Publisher: Utrecht: Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht
In: Automatic weather stations on glaciers : lessons to be learned : extended abstracts : workshop, 28-31 March 2004, Pontresina (Switzerland). ([2004]),
Abstract: Describes AWS operation in support of glacier mass balance and local climate studies. Lists locations of eight AWS on four ice caps and their outlet glaciers. Describes methods and materials, aimed at simplicity (most stations measure only air temperature and snow depth via ultrasonic sensor) and economy. Reports difficulty in achieving data download from remote locations more than once per year. Notes moves to measurement of more parameters and from Stevenson screen to aspirating shield (fan operates for ten minutes before hourly measurement during April-September). Compares aspirated and non-aspirated shields on Agassiz ice cap, showing self-heating effect generally smaller than 1°C. Presents early snow depth results from Agassiz stations.
