Abstract: Discusses high altitude treeline phenomenon with global perspective. Notes that high elevation treeline is found at surprisingly uniform growing season temperatures world-wide, while other types of thresholds (including warmest month temperature) do not work on global scale. Phenomenon is explained by close aerodynamic coupling between tree crowns and atmospheric conditions.
