Record #190376:

A circumpolar case: networking against gender violence across the East-West border in the European north / Aino Saarinen.

Title: A circumpolar case: networking against gender violence across the East-West border in the European north / Aino Saarinen.
Author(s): Saarinen, Aino.
Date: 2009.
Publisher: [Chicago]: University of Chicago
Abstract: Describes history and current status of grassroots mobilising, networking, development, and research on gender violence in the Barents region, including northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and northwestern Russia, from early 1990s to present. Contrasts hierarchical sponsors-versus-recipients relationship common in development work with evolution of Network for Crisis Centres in the Barents Region (NCBR) towards transnational exchange and building from local conditions. Outlines reasons for diminishing funding.
