Record #190310:

Talking and not talking about climate change in northwestern Alaska / Elizabeth Marino, Peter Schweitzer.

Title: Talking and not talking about climate change in northwestern Alaska / Elizabeth Marino, Peter Schweitzer.
Author(s): Marino, Elizabeth.
Schweitzer, Peter.
Date: 2009.
Publisher: Walnut Creek, CA: Left Coast
In: Anthropology and climate change : from encounters to actions. (2009.),
Abstract: Examines ways in which discourse of global climate change can complicate anthropological work that seeks to understand local change. Reports research project which documented changes observed in landscape in north-western Alaska and how those changes were perceived and understood at local level. Identifies "disconnect" between observations of local change and generalisations of "climate change". Generalisations appear to be detrimental to complex and detailed understanding of environment and change existing within local and culturally specific discourse.
