Author(s): Forbes, Bruce C.
Stammler, Florian.
Date: 2009.
In: Polar Research. (2009.), Vol. 28 (2009)
Abstract: Explores how Western scientific concepts and attitudes towards indigenous knowledge, as they relate to resource management and climate change, differ from prevailing view in contemporary Russia. Drawing on data from Nenetskiy tundra, shows how some research has used Western paradigms of climate change, wildlife management and local indigenous knowledge. Notes sceptical and defensive reaction of academics and politicians in Russia to what they perceive as Western dominated political agenda.
