Record #189813:

Associations between annual and seasonal variations in body mass and reproductive success and blood biochemical parameters in semi-domesticated reindeer / Ingrid H. Holmøy, and 4 others.

Title: Associations between annual and seasonal variations in body mass and reproductive success and blood biochemical parameters in semi-domesticated reindeer / Ingrid H. Holmøy, and 4 others.
Author(s): Holmøy, Ingrid H.
Date: 2009.
In: Rangifer. (2009.), Vol. 29 (2009)
Abstract: Presents study of reproductive performance and blood biochemical parameters associated with fat and carbohydrate metabolism in herd of free-ranging, semi-domesticated reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) over two-year period, with extreme between-year variation in forage variability. Investigates effects of climatic factors on reindeer reproduction by analyzing whether time of onset of luteal function in autumn and calf survival were associated with changes in body mass and weather conditions, such as snow depth, precipation and temperature. Results indicate that maternal body mass in spring is of primary importance for calf survival, and productivity of herd.
