Diagnosing the Southern Ocean overturning from tracer fields / Jan D. Zika, Bernadette M. Sloyan, Trevor J. McDougal.
Title: | Diagnosing the Southern Ocean overturning from tracer fields / Jan D. Zika, Bernadette M. Sloyan, Trevor J. McDougal. |
Author(s): | Zika, Jan D. Sloyan, Bernadette M. McDougal, Trevor J. |
Date: | 2009. |
In: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. (2009.), Vol. 39(11) (2009) |
Abstract: | Investigates relationship of along-isopycnal mixing and diapycnal mixing to strength of Southern Ocean meridional overturning circulation (SMOC) as quantified by southward transport of upper circumpolar deep water. Results indicate that dense waters are converted to lighter waters not only at ocean surface, but also at depths below that of mixed layer, with vertical mixing playing important role. |
Notes: | Journal of Physical Oceanography. Vol. 39(11) :2, 926-2, 940 (2009). |
