Title: Terrestrial vegetation and dynamics / Niek J.M. Gremmen, Valdon R. Smith.
Author(s): Gremmen, Niek J. M.
Smith, Valdon R.
Date: 2008.
Publisher: Stellenbosch: Sun Press
In: Prince Edward Islands : land-sea interactions in a changing ecosystem. (2008.),
Abstract: Describes flora of sub-Antarctic Marion and Prince Edward islands, with overview of ecology and distribution of vegetation types on Marion Island. Presents main patterns of vegetation succession and changes in vegetation due to changes in population sizes of seals and seabirds, and discusses impact of human activities, including introduction of alien plant species. Includes wet, mesic, dry and drainage line mire habitats; open, closed, mesic and dwarf shrub fernbrake habitats; mesic and xeric fellfield habitat; polar desert; coastal saltspray complex; biotic complex including pedestal, coastal and inland tussock grassland, Cotula herbfield, biotic mud, biotic lawn and biotic mire habitats; and aquatic communities of freshwater bodies.
