Abstract: | Argues that northern management plans (including forest management plans in Yukon) should be formulated to reduce vulnerability to climate change; also that planning process should reflect community goals and aspirations. Proposes five conceptual approaches to adaptation in forest sector: to allow ecological change to proceed with minimal human interference; to facilitate adaptation through active management; to engineer resistance to climate change; to focus efforts on building socio-economic resilience; and to leave current management practices unchanged. |
