Effects of climate change on seasonality of weather for tourism in Alaska / Gongmei Yu, Zvi Schwartz, John E. Walsh.

Title: Effects of climate change on seasonality of weather for tourism in Alaska / Gongmei Yu, Zvi Schwartz, John E. Walsh.
Author(s): Yu, Gongmei.
Schwartz, Zvi.
Walsh, John E.
Date: 2009.
In: Arctic. (2009.), Vol. 62(4) (2009)
Abstract: Presents method to identify and categorise seasonal patterns of weather conducive to specific tourism activities, using tourism climate index based on hourly weather data. Examines changes in seasonal weather patterns from 1942-2005 at two Alaska tourist destinations, King Salmon and Anchorage. Results indicate that climate warming has had both positive and negative results for tourism. Lengthening of tourist season has brought benefits for sightseeing in King Salmon, whereas weather conditions for skiing in Anchorage have deteriorated as suitable weather now ends about nine days earlier than in 1940s.
