Record #189546:

Paleoeskimo demography and sea-level history, Kent Peninsula and King William Island, central Northwest Passage, Arctic Canada / Arthur S. Dyke, James M. Savelle.

Title: Paleoeskimo demography and sea-level history, Kent Peninsula and King William Island, central Northwest Passage, Arctic Canada / Arthur S. Dyke, James M. Savelle.
Author(s): Dyke, Arthur S.
Savelle, James M.
Date: 2009.
In: Arctic. (2009.), Vol. 62(4) (2009)
Abstract: Describes surveys on Kent Peninsula and King William Island in central Canadian Arctic in 2006, which document 546 Palaeoeskimo dwelling features spanning approx. 3,800 years (4500-800 ¹⁴C years BP). Feature elevation above sea level, corroborated by series of radiocarbon dates, appears to indicate that Palaeoeskimo occupation passed through series of "boom-and-bust" cycles. No conclusive evidence yet identifies cause of population crashes; climate change and resource over-exploitation, acting alone or in concert, are equally plausible at present.
