Examines influence of initial isotropy of polycrystalline ice on deformation curve and estimates elastic and non-reversible components of total deformation in cyclic 1-D compression. Describes finite-element modelling reproducing observed deformations. Obtains shear stress dependence on lateral constraint for use in constructing deformation isofields in ice sheet.
