Abstract: Reports recent Government of Nunavut survey which reveals that Davis Strait polar bear (Ursus maritimus) population is more numerous than previously thought, numbering some 2,140 individuals. Report's findings confirm Inuit hunters' impressions that polar bear numbers are increasing along south-east coast of Baffin Island, in northern Nunavik, and along northern coast of Labrador.
