Prey-capture by marbled murrelets in southeast Alaska / Kira E. Pontius, Matthew D. Kirchhoff.
Title: | Prey-capture by marbled murrelets in southeast Alaska / Kira E. Pontius, Matthew D. Kirchhoff. |
Author(s): | Pontius, Kira E. Kirchhoff, Matthew D. |
Date: | 2009. |
In: | Northwestern Naturalist. (2009.), Vol. 90(2) (2009) |
Abstract: | Reports observation of foraging behaviour of marbled murrelets (Brachyramphus marmoratus) in July 2004. Observations were made from 7-m-tall cliff overlooking frequently used foraging site near Point Bishop, in south-east Alaska. Fish capture rates measured in study suggest that marbled murrelets are capable of capturing large fish very efficiently. Finding corresponds with observations of other researchers that foraging time is low compared with overall activity budgets. |
Notes: | Northwestern Naturalist. Vol. 90(2) :151-155 (2009). |
