Sources of breeding season mortality in Canadian Arctic seabirds / Mark L. Mallory, Anthony J. Gaston, H. Grant Gilchrist.

Title: Sources of breeding season mortality in Canadian Arctic seabirds / Mark L. Mallory, Anthony J. Gaston, H. Grant Gilchrist.
Author(s): Mallory, Mark L.
Gaston, Anthony J.
Gilchrist, H. Grant.
Date: 2009.
In: Arctic. (2009.), Vol. 62(3) (2009)
Abstract: Reviews more than 30 years of studies on marine birds in Arctic Canada, and observes numerous instances of mortality of adults, eggs and chicks that appear unusual when compared with known sources of mortality for seabirds breeding in temperate or tropical regions. Discusses possible causes for variance, in particular effects of weather conditions and factors influenced by typical Arctic climate features. Summarises mortality incidents for nine species of Arctic marine seabirds as baseline against which future observations can be made.
