Record #188954:

New radiocarbon-dated vertebrate fossils from Herschel Island: implications for the palaeoenvironments and glacial chronology of the Beaufort Sea coastlands / Grant D. Zazula, P. Gregory Hare.

Title: New radiocarbon-dated vertebrate fossils from Herschel Island: implications for the palaeoenvironments and glacial chronology of the Beaufort Sea coastlands / Grant D. Zazula, P. Gregory Hare.
Author(s): Zazula, Grant D.
Hare, P. Gregory.
Date: 2009.
In: Arctic. (2009.), Vol. 62(3) (2009)
Abstract: Presents results of palaeontological research on Herschel Island, Yukon, which has yielded diverse collection of Quaternary marine and terrestrial vertebrate fossils. Terrestrial faunal remains, which have largely been collected as allochthonous beach debris at Pauline Cove, are dominated by Yukon horse (Equus sp.) with fewer specimens of steppe bison (Bison priscus), proboscideans, and other large and medium-sized mammals. Notes that radiocarbon-dated faunal finds cannot adequately resolve whether Herschel Island ice-thrust ridge was formed during Early Wisconsinan or Late Wisconsinan advance of Laurentide Ice Sheet over Yukon coastal plain.
