Abstract: Recounts unexpected recovery of original telegram drafts Cook wrote for cables sent from Lerwick in 1909, announcing that he had reached North Pole. Verifies authenticity of drafts and, based on physical condition of recovered documents and documentary clues, traces what can be known of history of documents between time that Cook wrote them and their publication 100 years later.
