Abstract: | Reviews state of polar research in context of 2007-08 International Polar Year (IPY). Notes that IPY highlighted importance of polar processes and urgent need to understand and track extremely rapid changes occurring at high latitudes. IPY resulted in plethora of research activities and observations that would not otherwise have occurred, all underpinned by mutual appreciation of value of shared logistical facilities, capabilities and data. |
