Trend in aerial counts of beluga or white whales (Delphinapterus leucas) in Bristol Bay, Alaska, 1993-2005 / Lloyd F. Lowry, and 4 others.
Title: | Trend in aerial counts of beluga or white whales (Delphinapterus leucas) in Bristol Bay, Alaska, 1993-2005 / Lloyd F. Lowry, and 4 others. |
Author(s): | Lowry, Lloyd F. |
Date: | 2009. |
In: | Journal of Cetacean Research and Management. (2009.), Vol. 10(3) (2009) |
Abstract: | Reports results of 38 aerial surveys of beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas) conducted in Bristol Bay during six different years between 1993-2005. Estimated rate of increase over 12-year survey period was 4.8%/year. Rate of increase suggests that either population was below environmental carrying capacity in 1990s or that factors that had been limiting population increase were alleviated after that time. |
