Record #188353:

Glacier fluctuations in the European Alps: an overview and a spatiotemporal analysis of available data / Michael Zemp, and 3 others.

Title: Glacier fluctuations in the European Alps: an overview and a spatiotemporal analysis of available data / Michael Zemp, and 3 others.
Author(s): Zemp, Michael.
Date: 2008.
Publisher: California: University of California Press
In: Darkening peaks : glacier retreat, science and society. (2008.),
Abstract: Reviews available glacier datasets from European Alps and analyzes glacier fluctuations between 1850 and 2000. Describes extrapolation from observations of size-dependent area changes in Switzerland using analysis of glacier size characteristics from 1970s (only period for which complete inventory is available). Describes available data from World Glacier Inventory, Swiss Glacier Inventory, and Fluctuations of Glaciers and their geographical coverage. Examines mass balance and front variation series for insight into glacier fluctuations, corresponding acceleration trends, and regional distribution patterns at annual resolution. Discusses representativeness of these recorded fluctuation series for all Alpine glaciers and implications for glacier monitoring.
