Record #188352:
Glacier mass balance in the northern U.S. and Canadian Rockies / Emma Watson, and 3 others.
Title: | Glacier mass balance in the northern U.S. and Canadian Rockies / Emma Watson, and 3 others. |
Author(s): | Watson, Emma. |
Date: | 2008. |
Publisher: | California: University of California Press |
In: | Darkening peaks : glacier retreat, science and society. (2008.), |
Abstract: | Uses instrumental and proxy climate data to investigate whether difference between proxy mass balance series for two sites along Continental Divide (Peyto Glacier and Glacier National Park) reflect differences in mass balance over time or result from difference in approaches and data used in reconstructions. In doing so, also explores differences in timing of Little Ice Age maximum glacier advance and their implications for palaeoglaciological research. Describes construction of glacier mass balance proxy records from tree-ring data, calibration with direct observations, and inter-record comparison. Investigates instrumental records (snow water equivalent, summer temperature, etc.) to assess differences in climates driving mass balance at two sites. |
Notes: | In: Darkening peaks : glacier retreat, science and society / Ben Orlove, Ellen Wiegandt, Brian H. Luckman, eds. |
