Krenke, M.M. Chernavskai︠a︡, E.A. Cherenkova. |
Translated title: | Maximum snow storage forecast method under the global climate warming over the Russian territory in the middle of the 21st century (based on solid precipitation percentage). |

Abstract: | Evaluates spatial distribution of snow storage according to climate change scenarios using empirical relation between solid precipitation share and monthly air temperature over Russia. Examines maximum and moderate warming scenarios for period 2040-2069, deriving dependence of maximum snow storage on annual precipitation from World Atlas of Snow and Ice Resources for three large regions of Russia north of 50° (East European Plain, Urals and West Siberia). Establishes that snow cover will continue over whole study area, diminishing in area in regions of maritime climate. Forecasts areas with maximum snow storage above 100, 150 and 200 mm of snow water equivalent for 2040-69. Reports that two coupled models display similar spatial distributions of maximum snow storage, although maximum values are higher for Hadley model than for ECHAM model. |
